چکیده
This work describes a micropropagation protocol for plants of Cynara scolymus cv. Early French, employing cyclodextrins during the rhizogenesis stage. Shoot apices were established in basic culture medium consisting of Murashige Skoog mineral salts modified by 50% reduction in NH4NO3 and KNO3, Heller's micronutrients, Gamborg's vitamins, 100 mg l ÿ1 myo-inositol, 30 g lÿ1 saccharose and 8.0 g lÿ1 agar, supplemented with 1.0 mg lÿ1 6-(g,g-dimethylallylamino)purine and 0.1 mg lÿ1 naphthalene acetic acid. In the multiplication stage, to achieve a rate of 3 : 1, basic medium was supplemented with 10 mg lÿ1 6-(g,gÿdimethylallylamino)-purine, 2.0 mg lÿ1 kinetin, 0.5 mg lÿ1 naphthalene acetic acid and 80 mg lÿ1 adenine sulphate. The incorporation of aor b-cyclodextrins to the rhizogenesis medium supplemented with 3 mg lÿ1 naphthalene acetic acid, allowed tripling the rooting percentage and doubling the number of differentiated roots per explant compared to medium without cyclodextrins. The exflasking survival rate of the plants was 70%. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Effects of artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaf and bloom head extracts on chemically induced DNA lesions in Drosophila melanogaster
The genotoxicity of bloom head (BHE) and leaf (LE) extracts from artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.), and their ability to modulate the mutagenicity and recombinogenicity of two alkylating agents (ethyl methanesulfonate - EMS and mitomycin C - MMC) and the intercalating agent bleomycin (BLM), were examined using the somatic mutation and recombination test (SMART) in Drosophila melanogaster. Neither ...

Cynara scolymus L. is a medicinal plant frequently used in traditional medicine for liver diseases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the different parts of Artichoke. Maximum antimicrobial activity was observed with methanolic extract of bound phenols for (bract and heart) against Gram negative bacteria. The MIC values for bound phenols from heart were (63μg/ml...
متن کاملAmelioration of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Enzymes Status in the Serum and Erythrocytes of Phenylhydrazine-Induced Anemic Male Rats: The Protective Role of Artichoke Extract (Cynara scolymus L.)
BACKGROUND: Hemolytic anemia is a disorder characterized by the premature erythrocytes destruction. Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) induces oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, which causes hemolytic anemia. Cynara scolymus due to its antioxidant compounds, has been used for various therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to evalua...

Background. Based on recent basic and clinical investigations, the extract of artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaf has been revealed to be used for hepatoprotective and cholesterol reducing purposes. We aimed to assess the therapeutic effects of artichoke on biochemical and liver biomarkers in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Methods. In a randomized double blind clinical trial, 6...
